Rain arrives in the Portland, Vancouver area…we are half way through October. Temps in the upper 50’s and low 60’s…Ants and other pests are still very active until about Thanksgiving.
As the temps begin to drop a few things happen that effects pests here in the pacific northwest.
Pests tend to look for warm, dry sheltered areas to over-winter. Our homes tend to fit that bill…
The materials we use to control these pests can become less effective due to all the rain and especially the cold. There are a number of reasons for this.
As the temps cool…pests tend to be much less active outside and much more active inside…limiting the materials we can use to combat them. Obviously there are materials that are designed not to be used inside your home but are perfectly safe applied outside. Often times these materials are much more effective at combating the targeted pest.
Treating outside in cold temps is not only less effective because there is less activity to come in contact with treated surfaces…but also because, often times, these materials can actually harden in the cold and be less sticky. If the pests don’t pick up the material from the treated surface…it’s like the surface was never treated.
This is one reason why we avoid treating our regular service customers in the dead of Winter (unless it’s for rodents).
If you treat effectively during the warmer months…you rarely have to go out in the Winter.
Now is the time to take care of those pesky invaders. Don’t wait until it’s too late!
We guarantee our work without requiring monthly treatments (especially through the cold Winter months).
